The ST MAX is the top launch monitor SkyTrak currently sells, and it is a different kind of product from the portable units already on this site. The Garmin Approach R10, Rapsodo MLM2PRO and Shot Scope LM1 are all built to be dropped into a golf bag and carried to the range. The ST MAX is built to stay put in a sim room or practice bay and act as the brain of the whole setup.

What justifies the price is the sensor stack. SkyTrak pairs dual Doppler radar with photometric cameras in a single unit, so you get the full ball data set — carry, total, ball speed, back spin, side spin, descent angle, side angle, launch angle, shot shape — plus a club data set on top: club head speed, smash factor, club path, face angle and face-to-path. Those last two, the face numbers, are exactly what the entry-level units on this site do not give you. If you are trying to work out why the ball starts right and curves back, that is the data you need.

One more thing that matters if space is tight: SkyTrak’s own FAQ explains that a photometric camera system does not need as much ball flight as a radar-only unit, which is why it suits an indoor sim. The brand recommends at least 10 × 10 ft of indoor space with enough ceiling height to swing your longest club safely. The ST MAX hitting zone is around 4 × 4 inches — wider than the roughly 2 × 2 inches on SkyTrak’s own original unit, so the ball can sit further off-centre and still be read.

The feature unique to this model is Speed Training powered by GOLFTEC, which SkyTrak describes as guided drills with measurable insights for building swing speed, available only on the ST MAX. Everything else is the brand’s standard improvement toolkit: skills assessments, bag mapping, randomized practice and the wedge matrix.

Limits to weigh before you commit: the unit alone is not a complete system. You need a capable PC or tablet (Apple devices need an M1 chip or better; SkyTrak recommends a dedicated graphics card on PC), and an annual membership to unlock the full app and Course Play — the box includes a 14-day trial. That is the opposite of the Shot Scope LM1, whose selling point is no subscription at all. Battery life is around 4 hours, and the warranty runs 6 months or 25,000 shots, whichever comes first.

Who it’s for: anyone seriously building a home sim who wants face data to fix ball flight and accepts an annual membership as an ongoing cost. If your goal is simply knowing how far each club goes at the range, a portable launch monitor is far better value.

On price: SkyTrak’s own store lists the ST MAX at USD 1,995, with a regular price of USD 2,995 shown on the same page (skytrakgolf.com · checked 29 July 2026). At the time of writing, the brand’s International Partners page listed no distributor for Thailand, so we could not find an official Thai retail price and have not put a baht figure on this page. We will update it once there is a source we can point to.
