The problem with putting an adult golf watch on a child is that it is too big for the wrist, heavy enough to interfere with the swing, and buried in menus they will never open. The J1 goes straight at that: a slim, light case, a ComfortFit fabric strap made for smaller wrists, and an interface trimmed down to what a junior golfer actually uses.
What Garmin did not trim is the course database — more than 43,000 courses preloaded, the same as the adult models — plus a 1.2-inch AMOLED screen bright enough for Thai sun. The features built specifically for learning are tee-off guidance that includes forward tees suited to a junior’s distances, a personal par setting so the child plays against their own goal with a celebratory animation when they hit it, and a pace-of-play timer that teaches good round etiquette early. Those can be switched on and off, so the watch grows in complexity as the player does.
Know the limits: around 15 hours in GPS mode is plenty for several rounds per charge but well short of a flagship golf watch, and Garmin publishes no standard water rating for it — only that it will play through light rain and wind.
On price: Garmin announced a US suggested retail price of USD 299.99 (Garmin press release, 20 January 2026, which lists the watch as available now; figure re-checked 28 July 2026). At the time of writing we could not find an official Thai retail price, so we have not put a baht figure on this page. We will update it once there is a source we can point to.
