One of Phuket's most famous courses, built on a former tin-mining site. Its signatures are the striking red earth and dramatic elevation changes — beautiful views paired with a serious challenge.

Overview

Red Mountain Golf Club opened in 2007 on a former tin-mining site in the Kathu area, in the heart of Phuket island. Designed by Jon Morrow together with Al Tikkanen, who spent several years shaping the course to draw out the full character of the terrain, the layout is a championship par 72 measuring around 6,781 yards. Its main draw is the severe elevation changes and the red rock walls that give the course its name, while many of the lakes were formed from old mining pits left to flood and turned into water hazards.

Highlights & Signature Holes

  • The par-3 17th is the course’s signature hole, with a tee box some 50 meters above the green and a shot played across a ravine — one of the most photographed holes in Thailand.
  • The back nine winds along the red rock cliffs and lush jungle, offering numerous viewpoints.
  • After climbing from the green at the 15th, the 16th is the highest point of any golf course in Phuket.
  • It was named “Best in Thailand” by Golf Digest in 2014.

Who it suits

Ideal for golfers seeking a challenging course with striking views, especially golf-trip travelers looking for Phuket’s signature course. With such dramatic elevation changes, beginners may find it tiring, but it makes for a memorable experience at every skill level.

Before you go

The course sits in the middle of the island in the Kathu area, with easy access from both Patong and Phuket Town. Booking ahead is recommended, especially during high season, and teeing off in the early morning or late afternoon helps you avoid the harsh sun and midday heat.
